The basics
Who is this for?

Developing athletes building their foundation, competitive athletes chasing their next level, athletes returning to performance after injury, and active adults who want to stay strong, athletic and capable. For athletes, the program is Speed King: build speed, and build the body to handle it. Athletes Edge is coached athletic performance training, not a general gym. Athletic training is the method. Capability is the outcome.

What ages do you train?

Youth athletes from around 10 years old, through to competitive athletes and active adults of any age. Younger athletes are usually placed on Speed Foundation after the Starter Block. Athletes past the growth spurt are usually placed on Speed Performance, and adults are usually placed on Athletic Performance. Age is a guide, not a cutoff. Everyone starts with the Athlete Starter Block, and your coach places you from there.

Do I need athletic experience?

No. Everyone starts with the Athlete Starter Block. After the Starter Meeting and six coached sessions, your coach places you on the track that fits your numbers, readiness, goals and week. Within each track the early levels use simpler movements, lower speed and loading and more coaching, and you progress when your movement, consistency and recovery show you are ready.

The three tracks
What is Speed Foundation?

For athletes before the growth spurt. As a guide, girls around 10 to 13 and boys around 11 to 14. Speed is a skill, and this track builds the skill of speed and the coordination under it while the window is open. Two coached Speed Sessions a week, acceleration one day and max velocity the other, each finishing in the gym. $279 every 4 weeks. When the athlete is ready, they move up to Speed Performance.

What is Speed Performance?

For athletes during or past the growth spurt, around 14 to 25, chasing selection and higher levels of sport. The goal is speed, strength and robustness together, with a body set up for higher performance and long-term athleticism. Most start with two or three coached sessions a week. Monday is usually acceleration. If the athlete trains Monday, Tuesday may be upper-body gym work instead of a second acceleration session. If Monday is unavailable, Tuesday may be the acceleration day. Wednesday to Friday may be max velocity or gym work as prescribed. The coach sets and progresses the mix based on consistency, readiness and recovery. $369 every 4 weeks.

What is Athletic Performance?

For adults, former athletes and anyone rebuilding, including athletes not ready to sprint yet. Keep your performance or set new PBs, so you can do what you want, when you want: run the marathon, play sport into your 40s and beyond, keep up with the kids. Performance Gym Sessions, no timed sprinting. $319 every 4 weeks for two a week, $369 for three.

What does it cost?

Everyone starts with the Athlete Starter Block, $299 once: your first meeting, then six coached sessions and a review. After it you move onto your track. Speed Foundation is $279 every 4 weeks. Speed Performance and Athletic Performance are $369 every 4 weeks, three month minimum from the day you start one. The full breakdown and the timetable are on the memberships page.

What is included?

Coached sessions every time you train, never a program handed to you. Progress reviews, recovery access, and a coach-prescribed training pathway based on your goals, numbers and readiness. Your track and training dose can change as you develop.

The sessions
What is Speed King?

Speed King is the name of the Athletes Edge athlete program, and the belief behind it: faster athletes have more success in every sport. It is the complete system for athletes who want to get faster, stronger and harder to break: acceleration, maximum velocity, sprint technique, strength, power, coordination and progressive exposure, plus the gym training that builds the body to handle speed. It is not a separate business or a sprint-only clinic. Speed Foundation and Speed Performance both sit inside it.

Why does speed come first?

Every athlete is built from five qualities: speed and power, strength, skill, flexibility and endurance. Speed and power are the hardest to improve and the easiest to lose, so they need the most attention and the most protecting. Almost every sport is limited in part by how fast you are, and in many sports limited speed becomes a ceiling on performance. It is also one of the best things for your health. Speed and power help preserve physical capability, coordination and independence as you age.

Endurance is the easiest to train and the easiest to abuse, and done wrong it does the most damage to speed and skill. Strength is second. Those two are the things we see athletes get wrong most, and the biggest mistake in their training. So here, speed sits at the top and everything else is prescribed around it. Speed is king.

What are Speed Sessions and Performance Gym Sessions?

Two kinds of session, one timetable. Speed Sessions use timed sprinting and are for Speed Foundation and Speed Performance. Monday is usually acceleration. If the athlete trains Monday, Tuesday may be upper-body gym work instead of a second acceleration session. If Monday is unavailable, Tuesday may be the acceleration day. Wednesday to Friday may be max velocity or gym work as prescribed. Performance Gym Sessions build strength, power and movement without timed sprinting. They run for Athletic Performance at 7:30am, 8:30am and 6:15pm, and Speed Performance athletes may be prescribed Performance Gym Sessions inside selected Speed Session times. Your coach confirms which sessions you book.

What if I am returning from injury?

If you are an athlete, you keep your Speed Session times and do Performance Gym Sessions instead of the sprinting until you are right, then return to timed sprinting when you are ready. Adults and anyone rebuilding over a longer stretch train on Athletic Performance, with exercise selection and loading scaled to where you are right now.

What if I already have a sprint or sport coach?

Athletic Performance supports your existing sprint, track or sporting program by building strength, power, movement and physical capacity without duplicating the speed work you are already doing.

How often do I train?

Most people start with two or three coached sessions a week. Your coach increases the dose when your attendance, readiness and recovery support it. Three sessions is common, but the right number depends on your track, goals and ability to recover.

How does the two-to-three-session progression work?

Your coach reviews attendance, readiness and recovery after the first few weeks. If another session will help and you can recover from it, they add it at no extra membership cost. The goal is the right dose, not the maximum dose.

Starting
What is the Athlete Starter Block?

How everyone starts, athlete, adult or rebuilding after injury. It is $299 once and has three parts. Your first meeting, about 30 minutes at the gym: a look around, the apps set up, a few baseline numbers and your sessions locked in. Nothing to prepare for. Then six coached sessions, two a week for three weeks or three a week for two weeks, set by the coach. Then a review of your numbers, where we place you on the track and dose that fit. You never have to pick a program before you know what you need.

Why not just pick a membership and start?

Because the tracks are prescribed, not chosen. Which one fits depends on where the athlete is in their growth, what the numbers say and what they are ready for, and that is not something you can know from a price list. The block gives us six sessions and a proper baseline to get it right. Picking the wrong track costs more than the block does.

Can siblings train together?

Often, yes. Speed Foundation and Speed Performance book the same Speed Sessions, so siblings on either can train at the same time. Performance Gym Sessions for Athletic Performance run at their own times, 7:30am, 8:30am and 6:15pm, and the 6:15pm runs alongside the Speed Sessions. Your coach will confirm what works at your first meeting.

Once you are in
What if my schedule changes?

Moving one session this week? Do that yourself in the GymMaster app. Want to change the days or times you train for good? Use the session change form and a coach will move your recurring booking. Bigger changes, like a block away for preseason, are handled case by case. Just tell us.

How does cancellation work?

Clearly and without fuss. Put the request in through the membership request page and a coach will talk it through with you, confirm your notice period and final date of access, and ask for a quick exit chat so we understand why. Your membership terms, including the notice period, are set out at checkout and in your membership agreement.
